Wire ropes in general:
The specified length refers to the actual usable length including the pressed loops, thimbles or terminals (and ¾ opened tensioners, if present). Under the technical details on each product detail page, you will find a diagram showing the length of the wire rope.
For wire ropes with customized lengths, you must first select the appropriate length range and then enter the exact desired length in the field provided. The length range is necessary to determine the price. The underlying dimensions can be found in the technical details on each product detail page.
We generally advise against using different metals due to their different electrochemical properties. In the worst case, contact corrosion can cause a material to dissolve.
The elongation at break of steel wire ropes is only approx. 1.5 - 1.8% elongation. The modulus of elasticity for wire and steel ropes cannot be determined accurately. The modulus of elasticity differs greatly for wire ropes as the internal friction of the individual wires is very different.
For the smallest permissible bending radius of a steel wire rope, please multiply the diameter of the steel wire rope by 20. For example, a 3 mm wire rope has a bending radius of at least 60 mm.
Wire ropes with a 1x19 construction are considered "stiff" and less flexible due to the low number of individual wires. The 7x7 and 7x19 constructions, on the other hand, offer a high degree of flexibility due to the high number of individual wires. Due to a higher material density, stiff wire ropes generally have a higher breaking load than flexible wire ropes of the same rope thickness. Stiff wire ropes can be used for straight bracing without deflections (e.g. for shrouds on a sailing boat). A flexible wire rope is more suitable for a climbing aid, as the rope offers more surface area for the plants.

The minimum breaking load or working load refers to the complete rope connection, as the wire rope always broke in all test trials. Alternatively, a lower value is specified (e.g. for wire ropes with turnbuckle DIN 1480 hook / eye).
The diameter of the crimp clamp is twice the diameter of the rope.
Yes, depending on the rope thickness, rope lengths of less than 0.30 m can also be produced. You are welcome to place the order, if it does not fit, we will contact you again.
Yes, the end of the wire rope should be protected from splicing by means of an end sleeve (https://www.drahtseile24.de/drahtseil-endhuelsen-schwarz).
During the annealing process, the individual wires from the open end of a steel cable are desoldered to prevent them from splicing.
Yes, magnets adhere to the wire rope due to the iron content in the rope.
To calculate the minimum breaking force, divide the value of the minimum breaking force from the table by the gravitational force (9.81). Example 3mm (6x19) galvanized wire rope: 5,420 N : 9.81 = 552.50kg. Please note that this is the actual breaking force. Please add at least a 3-5-fold safety factor for your application. Example 3mm 6x19: 552.50kg : 5 = 100kg.
Sheathed wire ropes:
The numbers in brackets describe the thickness of the wire rope without and with sheathing. In this example, the wire rope is 6 mm thick without sheathing and 8 mm thick with plastic sheathing.
With a high-quality bolt cutter and approx. 2 - 5 minutes, 3mm (2 to 3) and 4mm (3 to 4) wire rope can be cut. With a 6mm (4 to 6) wire rope it takes approx. 5 - 10 minutes and with an 8mm (6 to 8) wire rope 10 - 12 minutes. Cutting is only no longer possible from a thickness of 10mm (8 to 10). Cutting through with a bolt cutter is always very difficult, as the wires of the wire rope splice apart and the bolt cutter must always be applied at exactly the same point.
For anti-theft protection of patio and garden furniture in a restaurant or private area, we recommend a rope thickness of 6mm (4 to 6) or 8mm (6 to 8).
The sheathing of the wire ropes is very UV-resistant. In an outdoor test over a period of more than 3 years, no change in the coating could be detected.
No, steel wire ropes with sheathing must not be used for lifting loads.
Yes, this is easily possible with a knife.
Yes, for optimum durability, the sheathed steel cable should be stripped before crimping. Therefore, please order suitable accessories for the bare steel cable. For a 6mm (4 on 6), this means 4mm accessories, correct.

Yes, the loop size allows one loop to be pulled through the other loop.
A special design with larger loops is generally not a problem and can be easily requested by e-mail (info@drahtseile24.de). Alternatively, you can specify your desired diameter or height of the loops in the comments field at the end of your order. We will then manufacture the wire rope to suit you.
Wire ropes with terminals:
For a railing, we recommend a wire rope thickness of 4mm - 5mm. If the rope is not to be deflected but only tensioned straight, we recommend using a stiff stainless steel rope.
If the threaded terminals are pushed through the posts and tightened using the lock nut, two right-hand threads can be used. If the terminals are not pushed through the posts, left-hand and right-hand terminals must be used.
Wire ropes for fitness equipment:
Unfortunately, we do not have threaded bolts for fitness equipment with imperial dimensions or other sizes in our range. However, you are welcome to send us your threaded bolt for crimping. Simply place an order in our online store with the appropriate wire rope and a corresponding comment. You can then send us your threaded bolt with a small letter with your address, e-mail address and the request for the conversion.
Wire ropes for garage doors:
We can also crimp all wire ropes with a larger thimble. Simply make a note of this request in your order and we will manufacture the wire rope to suit you.
General accessories:
No, this is the actual quantity. If you order 1x piece, you will also receive 1x piece.
The specified thickness of the clamps or accessories always refers to the direct wire rope thickness. So if rope clamps are required for a 2 mm wire rope, then you need clamps in a size of 2 mm.
Press clamps:
Crimping clamps made of aluminum and copper can be optimally crimped with our hydraulic crimping pliers (https://www.drahtseile24.de/hydraulische-presszange-fuer-pressklemmen-terminals) from a thickness of 3mm up to a thickness of 10mm (stainless steel crimping clamps up to 6mm). Our 2-in-1 crimping pliers & wire rope shears (https://www.drahtseile24.de/2-in-1-pressklemmenzange-drahtseilschere) can be used to crimp 1.5mm - 4mm aluminum and copper crimping clamps.
Yes, round and oval crimping clamps can be crimped with the same crimping jaws for crimping clamps.
The size of the clamp must be adapted to the thickness of the wire rope including the plastic sheathing. For a 4mm (3 on 4) wire rope, for example, a 4mm clamp must be selected.
Crimping clamps in 0.5mm thickness are not available, but you can crimp the stainless steel cable with a 1mm stainless steel crimping clamp.
Wire rope cutters & crimping pliers:
A different set of pressing jaws must be used for each rope thickness. The individual pressing jaws can be purchased at https://www.drahtseile24.de/pressbacken-fuer-hydraulische-presszange.
Just right. The size selection always refers to the wire rope thickness to be crimped. Please note that stainless steel lens head terminals and stainless steel ball terminals must each be crimped with a smaller crimping die size due to their small diameter. A 4 mm lens head terminal must therefore be crimped with the crimping die size for 3 mm terminals.
Pulleys:
For the temporary use of wire ropes, we recommend using the 4t deflection pulley up to a rope thickness of 6mm, the 10t deflection pulley up to a rope thickness of 10mm and the 16.3t deflection pulley up to a rope thickness of 16mm. For permanent use of wire ropes, the size of the pulley diameter should be at least 20 times the rope diameter.
Locks:
When ordering several locks, the locks are always supplied with the same key.
Yes, that's no problem. Please enter your request and order number in the comments field at the end of the order.
Unfortunately, only 2x keys are included with each lock.
